A Big Weekend

Happy Friday Church Family,

I so hope this finds you well today!

This is a big weekend for us.  We’ve been talking the last few weeks about Love – God’s love for us, our love for God, our love for our neighbors, our love for our enemies…it can be heady stuff.  But, at the end of the day, we must always remember that all theology and doctrine must be lived at a practical level.

Few people in the early church understood this quite like the Apostle Paul.  He travelled across Southern Europe and Western Asia starting little communities of Jesus followers everywhere he went.  Some of these folks were Jews, some were Pagans, and most were from somewhere in between. So, when Paul talks about Love (albeit in poetic, abstract language), we should pay attention.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be looking at 1 Corinthians 13.  It’s a beautiful discourse about love.  It’s often read at weddings, sometimes at funerals, and occasionally even in worship.  But, as beautiful as it is, we have to remember that Paul is speaking to a real community with real challenges who really needed to hear a message about why, how, and when they are to love.  I don’t think you’ll want to miss out.

And then (as if this wasn’t good enough!) we get the opportunity to practice what we’ve preached on Sunday afternoon.  Our Fall Festival and Trunk-or-Treat is usually always a big hit for the community.  It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with neighbors we have not seen or met before.  Most of all, it is an opportunity to love others well.

I can’t wait to see y’all there.

Praying for you as we close out this week,

Pastor Steve
