All you need is love!

Ah love! What a beautiful thing it is!  It comes in all shapes and sizes, colors and creeds. It is blind, but also in living color.  It’s applied to everything from spouses to hot dogs to football. We celebrate it, market it, applaud it, congratulate it, belittle it, and write songs about it.

But what is love?

Really, do you have any idea? If I asked you to define in one sentence, right now, could you do it?

I know, I know…I put you on the spot.  But I want you to consider the way our friend, the Apostle John, defines it: “God is love.”

Huh?

Love is the most powerful force in the universe (it ain’t even close)…but when it comes to actually making sense of it, humans really struggle.  Even worse, we take a word packed with depth and meaning and we reformulate it’s meaning to fit our imaginations and preconceived notions.

This Fall, we’re going to take a close look at how the two most prominent authors in the New Testament (John and Paul) define love.  Personally, I’m really looking forward to it.  Love was really important to Jesus’ mission and, apparently, very central to God’s character.

I’m looking forward to starting this journey on Sunday, 11am, as we start unpacking this together.

Praying for you today,

Pastor Steve

P.S. If you’re looking for a pre-reading assignment, we’ll be in 1 John 4 and 1 Corinthians 13…soaking your thought in those two chapters could last you a lifetime.  Happy reading!
