From 60 to 0…and how to start rolling again.

Happy Friday friends,

Have you ever driven a really fast car? Maybe you have…maybe you haven’t.  But take it from me.  There is a sizable difference between driving my Honda Odyssey minivan and my Uncle’s Corvette.

The funny thing about fast cars is that, for most law abiding citizens, you can’t really ever drive them that fast (speed limits…ya know?)  But, that doesn’t mean you can’t get to the speed limit really fast.

Sometimes in life, you may have felt this same way – like you got from 0 to 60 in no time at all.  I think Elijah went through something like that.  He prayed, incredible things happened, he was on top of the world!

But sometimes, acceleration (in the physics sense of the term) works both ways.  It’s not just going from 0 to 60, but from 60 to 0.  Elijah saw these incredible movements of God in his life, and he put everything out there.  Then, everything came apart, he was threatened by his enemies.  He felt isolated, alone, and absolutely scared. And he prayed (seriously), “God, let me die…please.”

So, how do you come back from that – from a sudden, jarring slam on the brakes? God does a few things for his man Elijah…some practical, some not as much.  But it all ends with Elijah alone on a mountainside, never feeling more alive and never more aware that he was never alone.

Looking forward to seeing you Sunday and praying you into a great weekend,
Pastor Steve
